The Totalitarian Trend of Liberalism
Written by Michel Schooyans
Translated by Fr. John H. Miller, C.S.C., S.T.D.

What the critics say:
"This book is the third in Schooyans' trilogy of studies on social justice issues, all ably translated into English by Social Justice Review editor, John H. Miller, C.S.C. In [my opinion] it is the most important of the three. At the philosophical heart of the book is the crucial distinction between liberty (an essential dimension of human existence) and the ideology of liberalism (more or less a fabrication). The ideology of liberalism (which form the 'pro-choice' attitude) Is precisely what Schooyans endeavors to demystify, for its incompatibility with true liberty is at the origin of all the misunderstanding surrounding social justice.

Schooyans analyzes important documents [especially those of the U.N.] and demonstrates how the ideology of liberalism is essentially at war with the liberty of undeveloped countries. Rich countries are not so eager to aid poor countries in terms of moral, social and educational development as much as they are eager to curb demographic growth through the implementation of contraception, sterilization and abortion. Two presuppositions are often found in these documents that are treated as axioms: the first is that moral constraint in the sexual domain is unrealistic ... and that contraception will solve that problem of 'overpopulation' and underdevelopment.

[Offering] a cornucopia of statistics, Schooyans' book is hard-hitting, forceful and insightful. [He] never minces words and pays no homage to political correctness."

"Fr. Schooyans does a masterful job of exposing how and why those in positions of power among us have and continue to oppress the powerless among us. The concept of one-world government and worldwide economy ... should be a source of hope for those who struggle to provide for their families ... But as one reads the analysis Fr. Schooyans provides on the theories behind the drive toward one-world control, the perversity of the concept becomes clear. [He] exposes the links between the unemployed in wealthy nations and those in the Third-World who are viewed as 'unwelcome' members of the community ... The class of unwanted continues to expand as those in positions of power persist in the drive to amass larger fortunes over the bodies of those viewed as parasites rather than as brothers and sisters.

Many of those who are in dire poverty are denied the most basic of educational assistance on purpose lest they develop objective opinions and begin to recognize the evil deed perpetrated on them by those in power. In the struggle for power among the elite ... the powerful have that ability to go unchallenged in their quest to dominate [the poor] -- human beings sentenced to death as their wombs are left barren and their humanity is stripped from them, shred by shred."

"A surprisingly new and frighteningly true look at the world is offered by Fr. Schooyans' new book brought to the English reader thanks to the translation of Fr. John H. Miller, C.S.C., who, by this feat, did a great service to literature, science and awareness. This is a book which every American, especially, should study. It is a rare contribution to knowledge for two reasons: it includes a wealth of foreign, especially French and Brazilian, studies and research on global issues; moreover the author spent eight years teaching in Brazil, a country typical of the Third-World, and is competent to see the world and the United States from its viewpoint.

This is really a 'horror story' as it portrays with precision the situation of the poor in the Third-World who live below the level of humanity.

They are the new 'Unmenschen,' having no commercial value, really no status or even existence, since 'they are not being taken count of in the eyes of administrators of their own countries.'

The frightfulness of this 'horror story' increases as the author reports how the U.S. and First-World countries deny help to the Third-World unless its population surrenders the most basic right given by nature and nature's God to every living being: by raw violence in China, by stealth in Brazil, by pressure in Indonesia, by extortion in India and by corruption on the part of developing countries' 'elites.'

The 'horror story' turns disgusting when we learn that this policy of depopulation, of cutting off entire branches of living humanity, is being conducted by international organizations financed and dominated mainly by the U.S. Millions of dollars were spent in one year alone sterilizing women in the Third-World. But, of course the policy was and still is under-reported by the media ... The most chilling scene of this 'horror story' is the picture of refined, comfortable, anonymous ladies and gentlemen meeting in luxurious conference settings of government offices and first class hotels ... to decide how and when to exterminate masses of human beings. Gengis Kahn was a humanitarian; Hitler and Stalin were pikers alongside them."
